ABOUT
Overview of 6th grade social studies
6th Grade Social Studies begins with an intensive look at the geography of our world. The curriculum has been updated for the 2016-17 school year in Wake County. Students will first be engaged in the concept of geography, land-forms, the impact that geography has on the development of a civilization and the FIVE THEMES of geography.
These five themes will be integrated throughout the year into all of our studies and we "travel" through the ancient civilizations (Ancient Americas, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient Eastern Europe, Ancient Africa, Ancient South Asia, Ancient China and Japan.)
Students will be immersed in the curriculum with hands-on collaborative activities integrated with technology. There will be projects (both in class and out of class). Students have a toolbox section in their binders with important notes. Social Studies is rigorous but interesting and fun!
All students on the 6-2 Team are required to keep an agenda. We are hoping that our students purchase ECMS agendas from our PTA. Students should write daily homework in these agendas along with checking homework on the homework links. All of the homework links are posted below. We ask that parents support us by checking these agendas and links. Parents are a key component to helping students develop organizational skills and habits.
We want to build responsibility.
Thanks for your continued support throughout the year!
